    The Vice President of Human Resources leads the generalist team’s efforts in recruiting, training and development, employee relations and engagement and retention across B. F. Saul Company and Affiliates.  This senior role provides strategic and tactical leadership to fulfill the company’s and human resources team’s mission and business objectives.  Partnering with the senior business leaders of the company, this individual is accountable for the full range of Human Resources functions and is critical to the establishment and enhancement of the company values and culture.  This role reports directly to the Senior Vice President of Human Resources and engages consistently with the company’s leadership. 

    Duties & Responsibilities

    Duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

    • Serve as a key member of the Corporate Human Resources Team in overseeing, developing, implementing and administering the full employee life cycle: recruiting, hiring, orientation, training, performance management, employee relations and employee engagement. 
    • Supervise and provide guidance to the human resources management team in providing support to the entire organization including B. F. Saul Company, Saul Centers, Inc., ASB Capital Management, and Chevy Chase Trust.
    • Develops strong, professional relationships with company leadership through collaborative, consultative role.
    • Provides strategic organizational development including: completion of annual department goals, workforce planning and employee engagement and retention strategies.
    • Ensure all policies and practices are applied fairly and consistently across the organization to all employees.  Review and implement company standards, policies and procedures and ensure they are appropriately developed and communicated.
    • Ensure compliance to federal, state and location regulations. 
    • Directs unemployment claims, workers compensation claims, ADAA, OSHA logs and reporting.
    • Directs management of Affirmative Action Program including timely and accurate completion of affirmative action plans.
    • Oversee employee relations and investigations:
    • Manages senior level situations
    • Provides impartial treatment to all employees through proper employment practices and policies throughout the organization
    • Protects the owners for any employment litigation
    • Serves as key member of internal compensation committee and oversees proper facilitation of compensation program to attract and retain talent. 
    • Actively contributes and participates in all human resources activities including company events, engagement initiatives and employee training.   
    • Maintains a professional and ethical image for all employees across the organization.
    • Other special projects as assigned.

     

    Qualifications & Skills

    JOB REQUIREMENTS (SKILLS/ABILITIES):

    • Excellent people skills with demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong, professional relationships in positive, influential manner
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Demonstrated knowledge in all human resources areas
    • Excellent working knowledge of all employment laws and regulations (FMLA, ADAA, FLSA, Title VII, etc.)
    • Ability to be adaptive and drive positive change
    • Focused, goal oriented, “do it now” attitude with strong follow up
    • Demonstrated leadership skills
    • Proficiency in HRIS applications and Microsoft Office Suite

     

    EXPERIENCE:

    • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive human resources management experience
    • Three (3) years of supervisory experience
    • Previous experience in corporate and multi-unit property management environment highly desirable

     

    EDUCATION / LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Psychology or Business
    • Master’s Degree in Human Resources or MBA strongly preferred
    • Human Resources Certification (SPHR and/or SHRM-SCP) strongly preferred
    • Employment Law Certification preferred
