  • Overview

    The Assistant Vice President, Assistant Controller will be responsible for managing and overseeing all aspects of financial accounting and financial reporting including the preparation of monthly financial statements and the underlying data that populates Forms 10-Q and 10-K and related disclosures and footnotes.  The successful candidate will ensure compliance with policies and procedures including key controls over financial reporting.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    Duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

    • Manage, mentor, train, and develop an accounting staff of 12 - 14
    • Provide accounting support to the management team and oversee billing support for tenants
    • Analyze monthly property operating statements and work multiple team members within accounting and property management to identify and document causes of the variances for senior management review
    • Ensure all monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports are prepared in conformance with US GAAP and are consistent from period to period
    • Establish and continuously improve through automation processes and procedures to increase efficiency and ensure accuracy and timeliness of information provided to stakeholders
    • Remain current on new and evolving changes in US GAAP and analyze the impact of those changes on the Company
    • Review accounts receivable and ensure that the level of the provision for doubtful accounts is reasonable
    • Work directly with internal and external auditors to ensure timely completion of all audit procedures necessary for quarterly reviews, year-end audits, and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance
    • Assist in monitoring cash inflow and outflow and recommend appropriate draws/pay downs on line of credit to maintain target cash balances

    EXPERIENCE:

    • 5 to 8 years of relevant accounting experience
    • Minimum of 5 years of big four public accounting experience
    • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience
    • Strong knowledge of applicable accounting standards, financial statement preparation and SEC reporting requirements
    • Property accounting and corporate accounting experience preferred
    • Strong proficiency in Excel preferred

     

    EDUCATION / LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
    • CPA required
