Overview

The Portfolio Analytics team is responsible for calculating and reporting accurate performance. The Financial Services Data Analyst will ensure that performance data is provided in a timely and accurate manner to both internal and external clients. Ideally, the analyst will have a solid understanding of the investment management industry including performance calculations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight and management of the performance system including quality assurance
  • Develop and implement controls around data input and production output
  • Implement process improvements where necessary
  • Troubleshoot and correct inaccurate data in a timely manner
  • Develop reporting capabilities in the performance system
  • Respond to inquiries about performance methodology and reporting from portfolio managers, marketing and other internal teams including:
  • Identifying the reasons for an account's outperformance or underperformance versus a benchmark
  • Money-weighted versus time-weighted return
  • Different methodologies (IRR, linked modified Dietz, true time-weighted)
  • How asset allocation affects returns
  • Prepare recurring and ad-hoc reports for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring accuracy of results including returns-based analysis.
  • Assist in GIPS compliance and required documentation.
  • Work independently on projects but also provide support to and back up team-members as needed.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Independent problem solver and demonstrated experience in problem solving.
  • Strong technical abilities, programming experience and the drive to learn new systems, knowledge of SQL is a plus. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel is required and will be tested.
  • 1-3 years related experience and 5+ years total experience is preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of investment management operations, with a focus on security valuation, portfolio accounting, or performance measurement is preferred.
  • Extensive experience working with performance measurement and portfolio accounting systems is preferred. Ideally, First Rate, FactSet (PA and SPAR), InvestEdge, Advent Axys and Bloomberg.
  • Candidates must be able to work well under pressure or juggle multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Organized/detail-oriented/extremely thorough
  • Strong communication skills
  • CIPM designations is desired for this role (or progress towards)

 EDUCATION / LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS:

  • 4 year college degree in Finance, Economics or related discipline
